As we move into the works of Sophocles, we will observe how the members of Theban society have great respect for superstitions. During this time in history, people would refer to the constellations, the pattern of birds in flight, and common soothsayers (among other signs) in order to make sense of the world around them. Certainly, mapping your life based on such illogical reasoning seems absurd to us in the 21st Century. Right? Actually, the influence that superstitions have on our culture argues how 'absurd' such beliefs are to humans of any era.
For your assignment tonight, identify a unique example of how superstitions influence our behavior today. We have all heard about the common black cat, number 13, and broken mirror stories, so look deeper to find a great example to share with the class. OR, you can research a little more about your own 'signs'. We'll have a lot of fun sharing these in class.
Post your message and reply to a minimum of two in order to earn the total five points.
Every message will require a brief explanation ( 10 line minimum) and I prefer examples with attached links (movie clips, music, pictures, graphs).
